A stream of life science graduates

When you’re based in DeKalb, you don’t have to go far to recruit tomorrow’s workforce.

Few U.S. counties have as many institutions of higher learning as DeKalb County. And the six colleges, universities and technical schools located here graduate a steady stream of life sciences majors at all levels. That’s good news for life science companies and organizations that choose to locate their operations in DeKalb.

DeKalb’s postsecondary enrollment in the life sciences is truly impressive:

  • Emory University, located in the heart of DeKalb, enrolls more than 1,000 students in bioscience-related fields. The university itself is ranked 18th in the nation, according to U. S. News & World Report’s “Best Colleges in the U.S.”

  • Oglethorpe University and Agnes Scott College, two premier liberal arts institutions based in DeKalb, enroll a combined 300 students in the life sciences.

  • Mercer University’s College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, also based in DeKalb, enrolls 1,100 students in a variety of life science and medical programs, including 40 in its Pharmacy Ph.D. program. Mercer is planning a major campus expansion to elevate its profile and increase enrollment in DeKalb.

  • DeKalb is also home to Georgia Perimeter College, the state’s third largest college, as well as DeKalb Technical College. Both provide a healthy supply of graduates in life sciences and professional fields. Together, they even offer joint programs in medical laboratory technology and surgical technology.
